On Thursday, Oct 19th, Albany FBLA members attended the Fall Leadership Lab hosted by the Milwaukee Wave Soccer club and the Milwaukee Theater. Students were able to take part in a Career Day Q and A with Nick Monroe from the Milwaukee Bucks, Debbie Gonzalez from the Bradley Center and Marissa Werner from Visit Milwaukee. During lunch, members watched a portion of the exhibition soccer match between the Wave and the Chicago Mustangs. After lunch, members participated in 3 workshops focusing on "Igniting Your Future" and becoming a Superhero in Your Community.#gobany #banybusiness
On Saturday Feb 3rd, FBLA members attended the Regional Leadership Conference at Columbus High School. Congratulations to all members for their hard work in their competitions! Albany's State qualifiers include Nathaniel Ross who placed 1st in Intro to Parliamentary Procedure and the team of Evan Blumer and Garrett Hlavechek who placed 1st in Business Financial Plan. Alyssa Knauf (Heath Care Administration) and Brandon Janes (Intro to Information Technology) each finished in 4th place, which makes them 1st alternates for the State Competition in April.
Albany FBLA Members attend State Leadership Conference in La Crosse.
Albany students Nathaniel Ross and Brandon Janes attended the FBLA State Leadership Conference in La Crosse. The conference was held April 9-10 at the La Crosse Center. Students were able to experience the opening ceremony Monday Morning which featured keynote speaker, Harriet Turk. Monday afternoon, Nathaniel and Brandon were able to experience tours around the La Cross area. Nathaniel visited UW-La Crosse and Brandon toured LB White, which is a global manufacturer of heating systems for pig buildings, poultry houses, greenhouses, tent spaces, and industrial work sites. During the evening, the students competed in various competitive events. Brandon competed in the Web 2.0 open event and Nathaniel competed in Introduction to Parliamentary Procedures with the hopes of placing Top 4 and qualifying for Nationals. Tuesday morning included the voting session as Brandon and Nathaniel represented Albany High School as voting delegates. They voted for candidates for the 2018-19 State FBLA officer positions. The morning session included a UW-La Crosse workshop focused on prepping for life as a college student. The students also visited the Future Fair to ask questions and get more information about area colleges and universities. Tuesday night, the results were in, and Nathaniel placed 4th in his event. This qualifies Nathaniel for the National Competition in Baltimore in June! Nathaniel is the 1st ever Albany FBLA member to qualify for Nationals!
FBLA members had their end of year field trip on Tuesday, May 1st. They visited American Family Insurance Headquarters in Madison where they received their own private tour and presentation. As you see from the group photo, they all received free sun glasses as a gift. The day concluded at the new Dave and Busters where students enjoyed a buffet lunch and some relaxing arcade games!
